About the role
This exciting flex staff role provides the chance to work directly with students and stakeholders from postgraduate programmes, supporting them to build strong communities and make real change on campus and in the city.
Specifically you will:
- Bring together students and stakeholders from postgraduate communities via the principles of community organising; strengthening engagement and belonging with the SU, and kick-starting communities where they do not formally exist.
- Identify and undertake research into barriers, concerns and causes that impact these groups.
- (Co)-lead delivery of activity that makes material change for the respective communities, considering both sense of belonging and influence/change-making.
You’ll work directly with students and other stakeholders, and have the support of a number of staff teams across the organisation to deliver your project.
Working for a multi-award winning Students' Union, this flex staff role offers you the platform to support and develop communities of postgraduate students, with a focus on improving experiences and building a sense of belonging. We are recruiting two positions:
- Postgraduate Taught
- Postgraduate Research
As a student-led organisation, this role provides a valuable way for us to directly embed student voice and experience within our services - informing and developing our offer at a pivotal time to make a positive impact on the student experience.

About the organisation
Sheffield Students' Union is an independent charity that works closely with the University to achieve a world-class student experience for our members.
Our Students’ Union is more than just an impressive building. We have over 300 student-led societies, committees to support specific student groups including LGBT+, BAME, disabled and international students, and an award-winning Student Advice Centre. Our leaders are a democratically elected team of 5 student Officers, who represent the student voice on campus and nationally.
The Student Communities team provides a range of opportunities for students - helping to build a strong sense of community and belonging for students during their time at University, and supporting students to develop valuable skills and experience.
