Student Influence Coordinator (Change Lab)
Fixed Term (1yr): Student Influence Coordinator (Change Lab)
The Role
‘Change Lab’ is a programme created and developed inhouse by the Sheffield Students’ Union which supports students studying at the University of Sheffield to effect change and cultivate skills in citizenship and community organising. The focus is on bringing communities together to create opportunities for positive change and take action on key issues for those communities.
The Change Lab Project Coordinator role offers the opportunity for an individual with high levels of initiative and passion for community partnership work to take this project to the next level. You will be responsible for all aspects of the Change Lab project and will enjoy mobilising students to produce meaningful and lasting impact on issues local to Sheffield.
The programme includes:
● Training in skills for change-making and community organising
● Opportunities to connect with third sector organisations, local authorities and other groups who are already active in the city
● The chance through speaker and networking events for students to hear from individuals and organisations who have successfully delivered change strategies
Organised into themes such as economic inequality, digital inclusion, mental health, and environmental sustainability, the programme aims to integrate students with the wider communities they are a part of, and embed lasting change.
The Project coordinator, provided with an initial brief, will support students to research key issues in the city and identify where change-making could produce the biggest community impact, contacting relevant stakeholders to explore the core problems and scope their projects. With training and support, they will then develop strategies and action plans to deliver the change they want to see. Students will work collaboratively with one another and groups or individuals in the community who are working towards achieving impacts within the same area, to explore how change happens and to develop their approach and strategies dynamically.
Change Lab students with the support and guidance of the Project Coordinator will host open events and activities to build the profile and visibility of their campaigns within the student population and garner support.
Joining our team at an exciting stage of growth and development, this role will suit an individual motivated to get stuck in and hit the ground running. Experience of partnership working and delivering objectives collaboratively will be of benefit to the role as you support students to enhance their contribution to the city region, and further develop the civic role of the University and Students’ Union in the city.
We are looking for a highly effective project manager who enjoys building productive networks and systems. An effective motivator and influencer, you will have an excellent understanding of the motivations and barriers for University students and for organisations in involving them. Plus, you’ll possess the skills to maximise opportunities and resolve concerns.
This busy role requires substantial juggling of responsibilities and simultaneous oversight of multiple lines of activity. Highly organised, you will be able to plan effectively as well as manage resources with skill and confidence.
Key to this role is ability to support students to develop new activities and maintain successful stakeholder relationships. You will take pride in maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of city concerns and emergent opportunities, to help our project leaders maximise positive impact.
