Student Insight Facilitator - Partnerships & Policy

The Role
Are you passionate about student-led change and improving the university experience?
As a Student Insight Facilitator, you will build trusted relationships with students from marginalised and underrepresented communities, including those who may not have engaged with Sheffield Students’ Union before. You will listen to students through one-to-one conversations, group discussions and structured activities, accurately recording their experiences and identifying emerging issues and possible solutions.
Your insight will help ensure that Students’ Union policies, services, communications and campaigns are inclusive, representative and responsive to students’ needs. You will also encourage and support students to participate in representative roles, working groups, campaigns and other opportunities to create change.
We are looking for a current University of Sheffield student who identifies as belonging to a marginalised or underrepresented community relevant to our liberation work. You will need excellent communication, listening and teamwork skills, a good understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, and the ability to represent a range of views fairly. Training and ongoing support will be provided.
Key Duties Include:
- Conduct direct outreach to student communities to build relationships with students who have not previously engaged with the Students' Union.
- Design an run at least one listening exercise per semester in collaboration with the Voice and Advocacy Team.
- Empower student advocates by connecting them to committees, representative roles, and action teams to foster a shared community voice.
- Identify common challenges with communities and support them in driving collaborative action.
- Log student feedback using standard reporting templates and deliver monthly summaries highlighting emerging trends, community-identified issues, and proposed solutions.
- Advise on how Students' Union and University policies affect underrepresented students and recommend practical actions to ensure inclusive, representative student voice work.
- Embed community insight, lived experience, and sector best practice into Union responses to university, local, and national consultations.
- Align campaign efforts with agreed Students' Union strategies and priorities to deliver impactful change through established organisational channels.
- Mobilise student communities to maximise participation and turnout in Union-wide campaigns, consultations, and negotiations.
We are looking for people with can-do attitudes who are great team players. No experience is necessary, as we'll provide all the training you need.
